Samuel Whitbread, founder of the brewing business, was born in the main house in 1720 and it remained within the Whitbread family until 1890s, becoming a hotel in 1987. Each bedroom is traditionally and comfortably furnished with dark wood furniture and power showers in the spacious bathrooms.
